Commander Will Banowsky - 1800) Will was seated in his room enjoying a quick meal. He had toured the ship for most of the day and was becoming familiar with the layout and the inner workings. However one thing that was lacking was a familiarity with the crew. He had me a few crewman here or there, but other than Captain Sash, whom he met earlier in the day, and Commander Lemar whom he reported to the day previous, he had not really met any of the other officers or even the senior staff. This was something that he would hope to remedy in the next few days, but first off he wanted to enjoy this quick meal, macaroni and cheese, a personal favorite and one that would give him the bet of energy he needed to finish the last bit of work on getting his recommendations and opinion on the upcoming treaty to help best aide the ambassador. Of course, Will didn't mind a little procrastinating, he was an expert at it, so he would definitely read a little bit of cheesy poetry before putting the finishing touches on his legal summary. Even though the sound quality was crackling, he could still detect slight irritation in the voice coming over the comm. "We have a medical emergency in the main engines." He began to explain calmly, hoping a level head would help to calm this Doctor Ru'nat person... "High blood loss of the CEO. I'm not sure if I should move him." (posted by Justine) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 10, Sickbay – Doctor Leticia Ru’nat – 2048.5) =^= We have a medical emergency in the main engines. High blood loss of the CEO. I'm not sure if I should move him =^= The engineer sounded quite calm considering it was supposedly an emergency. ~CEO, that’s Norman Harper isn’t it. Tall fellow, with an interesting leg.~ “Well it all depends on where he is losing the blood from...” she started, but in the corner of her eye she noticed movement off to one side. As she turned to get a better view she saw that Doctor Trommashere had risen from her own sick bed and was making her way back to her office. Forgetting for the moment that she was on an open channel to the engineer she made a b-line for the CMO’s office, watching in stern disapproval as she pulled on a fresh lab coat and began checking through a nearby medkit. “Doctor Trommashere, I must protest!” started Leticia as she approached the office. It seemed that she hadn’t managed to grab the CMO’s attention as she was continuing to speak over the comm. system to who sounded like Doctor Kildare. Although Angeni made a half-hearted attempt to wave off the other doctor, Ru’nat didn’t notice it. She stood in the room, and she walked to her office, pulling on a fresh lab coat. She picked up a med kit, checking the insides to make sure everything was ready to go. She tapped her comm badge, her voice still a bit hoarse. =^= ... I have another team on the opposite side of the saucer and we’re working our way across the entire deck, looking for casualties =^= “Alright. Let me know the bridge status. I'm taking a crew and we're going to start on the Bridge. You'll know where to find me if you need anything...” replied the CMO, making her back out of her office. Leticia tried to block the CMO’s path, but dodged out of the way at the last minute. ~Never any good at chicken~ she thought as she called after her, “Please, Doctor, you should be up and about...” Angeni looked at her briefly and shrugged with a smile, before gesturing to two medics and saying, “Onward to the bridge!” she charged out of sickbay. Of course, Leticia being who she was noticed none of the subtle moves of the CMO meant to assure she had not been ignored. Instead, Doctor Ru’nat simply stood in the centre of sickbay, a little dumbstruck. “Am I actually here?” she asked, turning to a nearby nurse who glanced her way only briefly before rushing off to do some sort of duty. =^= Er...Doctor? =^= The uncertain voice came over the comm. “Oh sure.” Leticia turned and moved toward the freshly vacated biobed that had a few minutes ago been filled by the CMO. “Transport him here, why not!” Then she muttered, “the more the merrier.” (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 11, Arboretum – ACSO Ensign Shayhiloosh – 2050.5) =/\=There was some sort of explosion in the power systems. The saucer section was severely damaged. The Captain and Ambassador were near the blast when it happened.=/\= Shayhiloosh and Shureshlee both listened intently, horrified. "I see, Sir," said Shayhiloosh. There was a pause as if the Science department head were thinking. She continued, =/\=If you can tap into Ops' systems from there, I'd think it'd be best if you coordinate into investigating the readings of the explosions and patterns. Security could probably use the hand in investigation since they're current priority is finding everyone and neutralizing the threats. Engineering probably has records and what they've fixed and how is probably relevant.=/\= "Aye, Sir," answered Shayhiloosh. =/\=I'd imagine that the priorities at hand are aid to injured, prevention of repetition of accident, and getting back on track to our mission. So, I'd prioritize as….checking with Sickbay for the teams they have on Deck 11 and assist them if necessary. Then evaluate damage and readings.=/\= ~Basically Lt. Carrow wants me to do whatever I can to help coordinate the medical teams and give the other departments some help. I think I can do that.~ "Yes, Sir," said Shayhiloosh. "I will do my utmost to be of assistance in this crisis. Shayhiloosh out." (Posted by Sheila Mayer) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 7, Main Corridor – Yeoman Jason Miller – 2052) As Miller handed the tricorder to Ardena with a hopeful smile, she looked at it doubtfully and said, “Uh, No! But what we can do is get exact coordinates to the seventh place, measure for wide pick-up and clear all unnecessary debris and matter. Engineering can just do a matter pick up from that location and relocate. Either to the transporter pad, or sickbay if they have the relevant coordinates.” “Great!” Miller said enthusiastically, leaving Ardena to make her adjustments to the tricorder as he would try to contact engineering. Apparently communications were back online, in a fashion, but he hadn’t had chance to test them yet. With a touch of his comm. badge, it chirped positively and Miller said, “Yeoman Miller to Engineering.” =^= Go ahead Yeoman =^= came unfamiliar voice. Miller hadn’t gotten the chance to get to know many of the crew yet, but he was familiar with the senior officers, and this wasn’t one of them. ~No doubt Harper is snowed under~ thought Miller, certain that Harper was likely to be trying to do his best to restore power to the ship. “We need an emergency transport. /Please/ tell me they are online.” =^= They’re working, but not fully. What and where is the emergency? =^= Miller turned back toward Carrow, Ripley and the injured crewman. “We have a severely wounded crewman here. We need to get her to sickbay right away.” There was a pause as the engineer obviously went to check something. =^= I can’t get a clear lock on your location. Too much interference from the damaged conduits =^= “That’s OK,” started Miller, already prepared with his explanation. “Lieutenant Carrow is working on getting you some coordinates, so you can do a wide-area pickup pick up the crewman.” He didn’t understand the specifics, but was sure the Engineer would get the gist of what he was saying. =^= The coordinates would have to be pretty accurate, otherwise we could be picking up anything down there =^= Miller looked over to Carrow, wondering if she was ready. “Don’t worry about that. I think the Lieutenant is sending you the coordinates now.” (reply: Carrow IYW) As Carrow sent the coordinates to Engineering, the group stood well back away from the crewman. Seconds later the crewman, together with a small amount of the debris, dematerialised and was gone. Miller then looked around to see that Jackson was already moving on through the debris. Rather than waiting for any sort of confirmation from sickbay, Miller moved to assist the Lieutenant however he could. She had been knocked out painfully slammed up against a bulkhead, but other than assorted bumps and bruises, she was allright. Some blood dripped down her face from a cut and bruise on her temple. She hoped it would stop bleeding soon as she found it annoying. "Ensign Leoni to Lt. Maraht and Engineering." (Reply Maraht, Any in Engineering) "I am on Deck 5. I got slammed up against a bulk head. I just woke up a minute or so ago. I think I am basically all right. I have been doing what I can to effect repairs, Sir. What would you have me concentrate on the most?" He tried to get her out of his mind, but no matter how hard he tried, she was still there. He felt a little embarrassed. He had never thought of himself as naive when it came to death, but now he was not so sure. ~Get a hold of yourself.~ He thought. ~There are lives to be saved. Concentrate on the tasks at hand.~ "Give me a hand here Kenny." Dr. Kildare said. Kenny saw that she was trying to budge open the door to Astrometrics, but something was stopping her. ~Must be jammed.~ He thought. Kenny walked over and dug his fingers into the small open crack of the door and pulled in unison with Dr. Kildare. He grunted as he tried his hardest, but it still did not budge by much. "Are there no suction cups around here?" asked Kenny. (Reply Dr. Wendy Kildare.) Kenny heard a noise from the Astrometrics lab, and both he and Dr. Kildare looked towards it. Wendy shined her torch in the doors crack, and Kenny almost jumped when he saw a person on the other side. "Umm...Hello?" said the man. Wendy lowered her torch and ran up to the door. "Harry? Harry! Are you alright? Are you injured?" she asked. "I'm fine, just a few bumps and scrapes. I've three survivors on the lower deck. Cameron, Bailey and Doctor Kirschhoff. Cameron's not hurt either, Bailey has a broken arm and Kirschoff is bleeding bad, she was hit by an exploding console. I can't get the lower doors open and we can't move Kirschhoff up the ladder without fear of making her worse." His voice made it clear that they had to hurry. "Listen, we're no use to anyone while we're stuck out here. Can you help us get the door open enough to squeeze through?" asked Dr. Kildare. "Yeah, sure." replied Harry. Kenny moved over to the door and stood beside Dr. Kildare, ready to help open the door again. "Okay! I think I see the problem; there’s some sort of rod sticking out of the runner on the left side. Let me see if I can get it loose. Be right back." said Harry. Kenny heard the man moving about inside Astrometrics, most likely trying to find something to use to help him get the door open. While he was away, Kenny turned to Dr. Kildare. "Look; I'm sorry for my actions back there. I was not prepared to see something like that, and I'm kinda surprised at myself for not reacting as I should have." (Reply Dr. Kildare.) "Stand back!" shout Harry. Kenny heard Harry grunt as he pushed the door open with some kind of object Kenny could not see from this angle. But he got the door open and Kenny walked in. He didn't realise that harry was on the ground. In the darkness, Kenny almost stepped on him. He held his hand out to help the man up. Tom Jackson - 2058) Tom breathed a bit slower once he had verified Lt Trinin was still among the living. Turning to Jason Miller, Tom nodded his head and Jason set to increasing access to the control panel Jackson had to used to stabilize the force field in Lt. Trinin's Office area. "Jason, when I get things as stabilized as possible - you go in and get the Lieutenant OK?" Jackson instructed. (reply: Jason) Tom paused in his labors and put a hand on the yeoman's shoulder saying "Be quick and get him and yourself out as fast as possible" (reply: Jason) Lt. Carrow was close by - she had done well -- given the fact that this was truly like 'hell on earth' - what with the bodies, damage and uncertainty of the mission. Turning to Lt Carrow, Tom asked "Lieutenant, when Jason gets the Lieutenant out - could you check him over for injuries?" Tom asked. (reply: Lt Carrow) Jason indicated he was done and T.J. when to work. Stuffing himself into the access area, Jackson sighed at the mess he faced. He worked as fast as he dared. "OK Jason, I've got the Fields stabilized but not for very long. We'll pop open the door and you grab Lt Trinin". (reply: Jason) Jackson counted down and said "Go" as he opened the door. His commbadge chirped back almost instantly and Jon heard words that chilled his heart colder than the darkest ice desert on NCR II. =^=Did you get that Counselor? I'm afraid the Ambassador didn't make it.=^= "Affirmative, Lt. Daban," Jon replied, choked up with both anger and guilt. ~Oh, if only my words and council could have been more eloquent, Great Spirit. Maybe I would have been believed. Ambassador Nolan has gone to the spirits, Lt. Trinin's fate is unknown, the Captain's prognosis seems to be dire and now we're adrift and helpless in deep Romulan Space. This is a chain of traitorous events which I tried to warn Lamar of, and failed to do so, before I came down here to rescue my War Chief and his Elder Wise Man,~ Jon affirmed, as he pulled himself back from the utter abyss of blackest despair. ~Judging from the death of Nolan and the condition of Captain Sash, I failed at that as well, ~ Jon concluded bitterly. ~No,~ Jon shook his head. ~Focus on only the task at hand,~ Jon reminded himself, vehemently. Touching his commbadge determinedly Jon reported in and said, "Nayati to Lt. Maraht and Cmdr Lemar." (Reply Jonas Lemar and Maraht) "Commander Lemar, regrettably Ambassador Nolan is dead. Sadly the environmental situation on Deck 5 is also equally grim, Sir. There is a major hull breech on Deck 5. Though emergency force fields are still intact, there's still life support integrity and gravity on this level. However, it is quite cold here and the only illumination is either from the ship's emergency lighting or the numerous energy arcs that are spontaneously and randomly occurring in this section on Deck 5." "Thank you for the status report, Counselor," said Maraht. "Repair teams are on their way. ETA is about 5 more minutes." Maraht briefly mourned the loss of the older Ambassador. He had been a likable stalk, but right now there was little Maraht could do about it. He hoped things would go well, but the Romulan negotiations might have to wait for now. They had a ship to repair before they could do much else. With a slight shriek of discomfort, the man shuffled off of Harry's unhappy appendage and then offered the Science officer a hand up. Harry looked at him for a moment, considering whether he should take the offer, then decided he should. He grasped the man's wrist and pulled himself to his feet. "Thanks." He said. Harry turned as Wendy stepped into the room. He reached down and flipped on his wrist torch, shedding light into the otherwise dark section. "The ladder is over here, " Harry said indicating the correct direction with the beam of his lamp. "Kirschhoff is close to the bottom of the ladder." After a few moments, Tom turned to Jason and said, “Jason, when I get things as stabilized as possible, you go in and get the Lieutenant OK?” Jason smiled, “Well that was the plan Tom. How are things coming with the adjustments? Are you nearly finished?” Jason had watched the Lieutenant work quickly, and what sometimes seemed like a blur of action to Miller, he was quite impressed by Jacksons knowledge of these types of circuitry. He had expected the repairs and adjustments to take at least another 5 or 10 minutes. Jackson didn’t answer right away, but instead moved to put a hand on Jason's shoulder saying “Be quick and get him and yourself out as fast as possible” Miller wasn’t all that certain how to take that remark. ~Maybe he can’t make any long term fixes~ thought Jason. ~Maybe he can only open the door by diverting power from the fields~ Jason decided to stop with his speculation. He was only concerning himself more than he needed to. “I’ll be in and out as quick as a flash” he replied, hoping that Chief Trinin was still able and mobile, despite the deteriorating conditions reported to be inside. Jackson then turned to Ardena and said, “Lieutenant, when Jason gets the Lieutenant out - could you check him over for injuries?” Jason wasn’t certain when it had happened, but it seemed that Ardena had become the medical expert. In reality, they’re collective expertise was probably just first aid. He wasn’t certain why it was thought that Carrow knew more. (reply: Lt Carrow) Jackson delved back into his work and a few choice comments and muttering, he said, “OK Jason, I've got the Fields stabilized but not for very long. We'll pop open the door and you grab Lt Trinin.” Jason turned and handed his torch to the nearby Counsellor Ana Ripley, then folded his arms briefly to rub at his shoulders, preparing for the blast of cold within the Security Chief’s Office. With a sharp nod toward Tom Jackson, he indicated that he was ready. Jackson gave him a short count-down then the door slid open. Instantly there was a suction that seemed to draw the minimal warmth from the corridor into the office and beyond. Jason’s first view was of the open space beyond the emergency forcefield, and although initially quite scary, he started toward the office in the hope for a quick rescue of Baylon Trinin. As he entered he saw a figure crouched on the floor, almost in a foetal position. To his side was a large chunk of duranium debris, together with a phaser that had been cast aside. Focusing on Baylon, Jason could see that white ice had managed to form all over his uniform, and even on his hair and the tops of his ears. Trying not to pay attention to the deep space view less than a metre away, Jason grabbed the security chief by the arm and shook him. “Trinin...are you with us?” (reply: Trinin) Jason’s first thought was to drag the man to his feet, so he grabbed at the mans arms and gave a hard yank to pull him off the floor. Thankfully, the Betazoid had some of his own strength in him, and he was soon on his feet, so Jason quickly led his out into the corridor. No sooner were they over the threshold was there a flickering and pop as the emergency forcefield collapsed inside the security office. Miller managed to push Trinin to the side and to safety, but found himself being sucked back toward the office. Grasping the door frame with every ounce of strength he had he turned his head toward Jackson, pleading with him to close the door and stop him from being jettisoned into space. (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 7, Outside CSEC's Office - A/COPS Lt Tom Jackson - 2100) Tom had managed to stabilize the force field inside Lt Trinin;s office but just barely. Tom nodded and Jason shot in the office area and pulled Trinin to his feet and began a hasty retreat. No sooner were they over the threshold was there a flickering and pop as the emergency force field collapsed inside the security office. Miller managed to push Trinin to the side and to safety, but found himself being sucked back toward the office. Grasping the door frame with every ounce of strength he had he turned his head toward Jackson, pleading with him to close the door and stop him from being jettisoned into space. Jackson reacted swiftly killing the door circuitry and saving Jason from becoming a frozen popsicle. Tom looked at Jason and Jason returned the look - seeing Jackson was a bit white in complexion. "You OK Jason?" Tom asked with a slight tremor in his voice. (reply: Jason) The two men sat and collected their breaths as Baylon Trinin was being looked at quickly. (reply: Any present) Tapping his comm badge "Jackson to Commander Lemar. We've rescued Lt Trinin - other than being a bit of a Popsicle, he should be OK" and he waited for the FO's reply. Ardena was thinking the Ops officer wasn't quite sure what to do with her that he made her the defacto medic. That was fine with her, she wasn't sure she was any stronger than the Yeoman. Personally, her plan for the Security Officer was about the same as the previously injured personnel. Make sure they could survive a transporter beam and get them to where they could be treated safely! Ardena watched Jason grab their security chief and then relax as she scanned the man. She was as startled as everyone else when the fields in the security office gave and the atmosphere was being sucked out. She turned the tricorder in her hand and smashed the computer panel she'd been half-leaning against, struggling to keep her feet. Fortunately, Miller was making a semi-functional plug. She quickly chipped away the remnants and shoved her hand in the hole to grab the bulkhead and then leaned forward as best she could to grab Jason. Legs on either side of the security chief, she could feel his weight being pulled against her as the temperature dropped and the breathable atmosphere was being removed. She could only concentrate on slowing her breathing as best as she remembered her father's teaching and hang on. She felt like she was being torn in two. Baylon Trinin - 2100) Baylon must have passed out again, because when he became aware of another presence in the room wasn't until that presence had forcibly grabbed him by the arm and lifted him to his feet. Baylon could feel the strength of his core surging into his half-frozen limbs, giving them strength and allowing him to at least offer a little aid to his would be rescuer. “Trinin...are you with us?” All Baylon could do was force himself to groan and nod his head. His lips were fairly well frozen together and he did not want to cause himself any worse injuries than he may already be suffering. His rescuer, yanked him to his feet and Baylon managed to keep himself upright. The muscles in his legs burned with a deep searing pain as they were forced to handle the chill of the blood pumping through them. The pain was considerable but Baylon was unable to scream, he was husbanding his strength to get to someplace warm The next couple of moments were an inconceivable blur. Trinin was having difficulty thinking let alone processing any sort of sensory input and so he hardly noticed the sudden gasping of air as the forcefields finally failed. He felt someone grab him and pull him forward against the cold blast of air rushing by him. Then suddenly there was the silence that fell once the doors to the security office closed. The primal side of his brain somehow communicated the concept of safety to the sluggish cognitive part and Baylon, content that he would survive passed into a deep slumber. How do we get him lose enough to move him to that emergency sickbay that Nayati has located?” R’Serrot almost seemed to growl at the idea. He was obviously not pleased with the suggestion. “An emerrrgency sickbay with no powwwer is no good to us. The Captain needs to be in sickbay. But we can’t move him, or he will die.” “We can’t move him?” questioned one of the security officers, just a lost as the rest of them as to what they were going to do about the Captain. “Corrrrrrect. Tarus pondered their current situation. It seemed they didn’t have much in the way of options. “So we need a way to move him, without moving him.” In fact, Tarus could see nothing in the way of options. “It seems obvious to me,” said the security officer again, standing up and walking toward Tarus and away from the injure Captain at his feet. “We need the transporter.” “I doubt we can get any kind of lock down here. I’m reading massive amounts of plasma radiation distorting the tricorder sensor readings” stated Tarus, dismissing the idea entirely. He looked down at R’Serrot, almost pleading with the Catian to give him another option. “That rrrreally is ourrr only option. You need to find a wwway to mmmake that happen, Lieutenant.” R’Serrot stood up from Captain and stepped away. “I have stabilized him as much as I can, but we need Doctor Trommashere.” ~What am I, an engineer?~ thought Tarus, turning away from the scene for a moment to quickly gather his thoughts. ~An engineer...~ and with that he tapped his comm. badge, hoping it was still working, and said, “Tarus to engineering, or a transporter chief.” =^= Engineering here, =^= came an impatient voice. “This is Lieutenant Tarus and we have a problem down here. We need an emergency transport, but no way to help you get an exact lock.” Tarus didn’t mention who his patient was at first. He didn’t want to concern the man on the other end of the comm. unnecessarily. =^= Another one eh? Lucky for you, I know just the solution =^= The engineer then went on to describe a method to calculate a set of coordinates for the transporter, allegedly used not long ago by Lieutenant Carrow, the Chief of Science. As Tarus went to work making the precise calculations on his tricorder, hoping that he was as accurate as they sounded like they needed to be, Doctor R’Serrot started to clear away as much other debris from the area as he could without disturbing the Captain too much. “I think I have it,” started Tarus, standing up as he read out a set of numbers to the engineer. =^= You think? You realise that if these are wrong then your patient could end up with a bulkhead as part of his head =^= Tarus closed his tricorder and looked solemnly at the others. “You better hope they’re right. Our patient is the Captain. Initiate transport now.” In half a breath, a blue shimmer light up the dark corridor brightly, and even Tarus had to turn away – his eyes unable to adjust quickly enough. Once the Captain was gone, Tarus set to work trying to recover the rest of the ambassador’s body from the debris. R’Serrot moved to walk down the corridor saying, “I will go assist the Counsellorrr now.” He took only a few paces before activating his own comm. badge and saying, “Doctor R’Serrot to Doctor Trommasherrre. Emerrrgency trrransport in prrrrogress. The Captain is on his way and his condition is crrrritical!” With that, he leapt off down the corridor, hoping to reach the emergency sickbay in no time at all. With a quick glance to the nurse at her side, she then decided to be next through the door and stepped inside just as Harry was dusting himself down and switching on his own wrist-torch, helping to illuminate the dark upper section of the astrometrics lab. “The ladder is over here,” said Harry, indicating the correct direction with a beam of light. “Kirschhoff is close to the bottom of the ladder.” Wendy immediately made her way toward the ladder, and as she clipped her torch into her belt, she swung her medkit over her shoulder on its strap, then started to make her way down the ladder. She took only a few seconds to descend, but as she did so she saw the patient Harry had referred her to. Without even needing to pull out her tricorder, Wendy could see that the patient had multiple lacerations to almost her entire body. Little shards of glass protruded from her body all over, and Wendy was uncertain whether to start pulling them out, or to leave them as they were. It certainly meant treating her here would be difficult. As she whipped out her tricorder, she quickly shone her torch around the room to see two more crewmen present. One appeared to be nursing an injury to his arm, and another seemed to be bleeding from his head. “McKenzie, check out those two crewman there will I try and stabalise this patient.” She flashed her torch beam repeatedly from McKenzie – as he was climbing down the ladder – to the two injured crewman she could see. (reply: McKenzie) As she scanned Kirschoff, she could see that her vital signs were weak, so she instantly pulled out her hypo from the medkit and injected her in an effort to give her a boost of adrenaline to keep her heart beating. As the drug transferred, she drew the hypo closer and tapped at the control a little, then gave the crewman another injection. “I’m going to have to take out as many of these shards as I can without causing her to bleed out. Then I need to find a way to transfer her to sickbay.” Just at that moment, the lights flickered on and systems appeared to come online all around them. As the light flooded around the area, Wendy moved to shield her eyes, but after the initial surprise she looked around to see that Astrometrics had taken quite a hit during the power overload. Consoles and systems were blown out all around, and only around 50% of it appeared to be still operational. As she looked up at the massive starmap display, it appeared to have been unscathed. Turning to Harry, Wendy called out, “Harry, can you access the transporter and get a lock on my patient?” She looked back and instantly began to pluck out the shards, one by one, moving as quickly as she dared. “Once I’m done here I’m going to need her in sickbay.” (reply: Doorman) Wendy took around 5 minutes to complete all the treatment she could do here. Looking over to Ensign McKenzie she said, “How are you doing over there?” (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 7, Outside CSEC's Office - A/COPS Lt. I would think we can contact engineering and see what they want us to concentrate on- Any other suggestions?" Tom asked. (reply: Yeoman Miller and Lt Carrow) Tom Jackson listened as the other two spoke they minds. Tom tapped his comm badge transmitting "Lt Jackson to Engineering - come in" and waited for the reply. As Jackson waited, he is guess was the comms links were busy with traffic and someone somewhere was prioritizing the messages. Windsong-Trommashere - 2105) Angeni stood over the biobed, working an arrest. Even though some systems had come back on line, the biobeds had shorted out, along with a lot of the equipment that had been plugged in at the time of the surge. The staff was working well with the 'antequated' equipment, but she stood by, making sure that everyone was using everything properly. "Okay...now...press the green button, it'll charge up. The pads on his chest will deliver the shock once you push the orange button. Make sure you call clear first.." She listened for the familiar whine of the machine. Everyone stepped back away from the patient, and his body lurched as the shock was delivered. "Ooops...I shoulda said clear before that...right?" Angeni nodded, hiding a smile. 25th century medicine perfected a neural device that delivered shocks with the ability for people to work around it without getting zapped. As she watched the monitor, she took a quick moment to teach. "Alright. Now, it looks like we have a heart beat back, correct?" She pointed at the small monitor screen on the EKG. "But, if you check pulses, you'll see we don't have a pulse. That's PEA or Pulseless Electrical Activity. It looks like you have a functional rhythm, when in reality you don't. How many minutes are we in?" "Ten minutes, 34 seconds, ma'am." Angeni nodded, pinching the bridge of her nose. The man's wife was sitting in her office. She didn't want to call it, but there wasn't much more they could do. The electrical shock fried the mans' Vagus Nerve. "Keep working, you're doing a great job. Go ahead and load up one more Atropine, another amp of Epinephrine, and go ahead with the Lidocane." She walked into her office, sitting across from the woman. "Is...is my husband okay?" The young woman sobbed. Angeni held out a box of Kleenex, and she sighed gently. "I just want to be straight forward with you. The prognosis is very poor. With injuries like this, the electricity arcs across the heart, causing severe damage. A specific nerve in the heart was injured that controls the rate of the heart beat. There was also extensive muscle damage...almost like a heart attack." "WHY?!" The woman jumped up, knocking over her chair. She paced back and forth like a caged panther. Angeni stood slowly, standing her ground. She never liked doing this. She noticed a tap on the door, and she turned, opening the door. The nurse handed her a printout of the last rhythm...Asystole. Angeni motioned quietly to the nurse, whispering gently in her ear. "Go ahead...shut everything down. Make sure you tally up every shock and every drug. Put it on a padd, and we can send him down to the morgue with that. Jot down the time of death and go from there. Make sure you clean him up so that his wife can come and spend a moment with him. Move him to the biobed in the back so she doesn't think she has to hurry up and go, and also so no one can interrupt them..." The nurse nodded sadly, and Angeni turned around. The woman was standing right there, a glimmer of hope in her eyes. She led the woman back to her seat, and Angeni knelt in front of her. "I'm...sorry. Your husband has died..." Angeni watched as the woman dissolved into sobs. Her heart ached for the woman. All she could do was wrap the woman up in a hug and let her cry. It was never a fun thing to call a code like this, but even with all the medical advances in the world, nothing could fix a good shock to the heart with unbridled energy. She helped the woman stand, to go out to her beloved. With him in the back corner, she pulled up a chair so the woman could sit, having a private moment with him. The young cherokee was tired beyond all belief, and she knew it wasn't going to stop anytime soon. She walked over to those clustered around the first bed. "You did your best, guys. Great job using unfamiliar equipment. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask." Turning to Harry, Wendy called out, “Harry, can you access the transporter and get a lock on my patient?” She looked back and instantly began to pluck out the shards, one by one, moving as quickly as she dared. “Once I’m done here I’m going to need her in sickbay.” "Yeah no problem." Harry replied and headed to the only working console he could find. Harry noted that some of the algorithm functions were not functioning properly fro the sensor lock, so he quickly grabbed the variables and mentally crunched the numbers. It took him a little over a minute and he had a solid lock on the injured Astrophysicist. "Okay, got it, Wendy!" Harry called out. "Just say when." (posted by Daniel Greene) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 6, Astrometrics Lab – ACMO Dr. Wendy Kildare – 2106) As Harry headed over to a working console, Wendy concentrated on her patient. She noticed that there was increase in the bleeding, despite the coagulant that she had already injected into her bloodstream. He hand hovered over the hypospray, wondering whether she should really give her another shot. ~The last thing I need is for her blood to turn to jello~ and with that, she halved the dose and decided to constantly monitor Kirschoff, preparing a dose of Warphrin to thin the blood again if necessary. “Okay, got it, Wendy!” Harry called out. “Just say when.” Wendy looked up briefly to see Harry half-smiling back at her. “Alright, just give me a minute.” She sped up her work at once, pulling out as much of the damaged material as possible. When she was satisfied she got to her feet and stepped back. “Okay Harry, I’m ready. Be careful when materialising her. There are a lot of foreign bodies still in her tissue.” As Harry danced at the control, Kirschoff disappeared in a mild blue light. “Right then,” Wendy said, looking around the room at those remaining. She looked over at a motionless science officer, and after quickly training her tricorder on the body, she saw no vital signs. She had died some time ago. “Everyone else can walk, let’s get back up to the corridor and get you two to sickbay. (reply: any IYW) Wendy went behind the officer with the broken arm, giving him a gentle push up the ladder with her hands on his bottom. When they reached the top, she smiled cheekily and said, “That was a one-time offer Bailey.” Bailey just grinned, “Your hands are too warm anyways” and he made his way out into the corridor. As Wendy waited for McKenzie and Doorman to reach the upper section again she looked at Harry and said, “Do you mind getting these two to sickbay by foot?” She smiled and looked out to the corridor briefly to see Bailey standing there waiting. “I doubt the turbolifts are working yet, but I want to get to the bridge with Ensign McKenzie.” (reply: Doorman) As Wendy began to make her way to the corridor, the lights dropped out again and everywhere was filled with darkness. “Oh great, what now?” She looked around at McKenzie and Doorman, wondering if they had any ideas. (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 4, Saucer Engineering – Engineer Debbie Weston – 2108) Without warning, the lights went out with a clunk and Debbie noticed the primary systems begin to shutdown again. “I never touched a thing...” started Debbie, looking at her display and frantically trying to see what was going on via her workstation, until it too lost power and flickered into darkness. “What’s going on?” called out Travis from another nearby station that had also powered down. There was no answer from any of the three as each one tried to fumble their way to a control panel or workstation that worked. Seconds later, secondary lighting began to activate as the auxiliary generators kicked in. “Well, at least we still have emergency power.” Debbie waited a few moments more for minimal power to return to her console before bringing up the highest level of status report she could muster. She muttered to herself about the incompetence of some people, but right now she didn’t know whether it was her own, or someone else’s. “Access to the primary core and all computer functions appears to be normal.” Travis called out from her position about 3 metres from Debbie. “Then let’s ask it what is going on,” started Debbie, giving up with her own console for the moment. “Computer, what is the cause of the power out?” [Saucer section power nodes are off-line] “They’re what?” Debbie was a little confused. He power bypass seemed to be holding so the normal safeties would have prevented any sort of short. ~Boy is the chief gonna be p**sed~ she started to think, understanding that she may have inadvertently blown every power node on the upper decks. “Why are they off-line?” she dared to ask. [Command authorization was given by Commander Jonas Lemar] “What the hell for?” thought Debbie aloud. “You’d think they’d tell us lowly engineers they were about to mess with our systems.” She began to mutter another few choice words about the command staff but decided to bite her lip when she saw both Dana Travis and Alex Turner staring at her. ~What the hell...~ thought Debbie as she banged her comm. badge, “Weston to Commander Lemar. What are you doing to my power nods commander?” The commander sounded a little surprised, but answered her all the same =^= We’ve taken them offline to avoid another EPS conduit rupture. I suggest you speak with Crewman George Walker =^= “I may well do that. Thank you sir.” Debbie tapped her comm. badge again and closed the channel. “Anyone got any clues what Walker is up to?” Dana gave a shrug and looked over to Turner. “No clues here,” said Turner, accessing his console in its minimal-function state. Travis and Weston attempted to do the same but none of them could come up with anything. “Let’s ask the man who can,” started Debbie, much preferring the easiest way to resolve whatever the problem was. “Weston to Walker. What’s going on?” (reply: Walker) Weston understood the problem straight away. “Need a hand? We’re up in Saucer Engineering. Ordinarily she was such a calm character, collect in her thought and soothing in her nature, but cut the power out on a few decks and you can see a lot of people go crazy in just a flick of a switch. She had been ordered to leave the bridge about an hour ago. With communications down and little to no information available on the bridge, Commander Lemar had been insistent that the bridge crew go out find out what was going on in person, so he could better direct people through this emergency, whatever it was. All she knew then was there was a hull breech, but the reason, or the extent of any damage she hadn’t the foggiest idea. So as ordered, she had climbed down thirteen decks to reach Main Engineering, only to find that when she had managed to come out of the access tubes that communications were back online. She had been about to step through the doors into main engineering when she heard the Commander’s voice clearly over the comm., obtaining the update he had so badly requested her to get him. ~Oh great~ she had thought, resisting the urge to throw her hands up in the air then slump into a corner and rest. So she had begun to make her way back up the access tubes to see if she could help in some other fashion. Thinking on her feet, she had headed toward the impulse engine rooms up on deck 4. It was a trek, but she figured that she would be able to ensure the ship would remain mobile from there, assuming control could still not be attained from the bridge. When she had managed to reach the impulse engine control room, power had been out for the entire room. It had returned only briefly before it seemed that power was once again drawn away from the systems and consoles, although to Finlay’s advantage, computer control still remained, so she could still handle the controls at emergency power. ~What the hell is going on with the power? I thought we had good engineers onboard!~ She looked down at her hands. They were read raw from all the climbing she had been forced to do up and down the access hatches. He uniform was dirty and grimy, from having to travel through slightly damaged areas on decks 5 and 6 ... twice. ~I’m really going to need a break after this~ she thought, wondering how on earth she had managed to break 5 of her 10 ten finger nails. ~This is not a good look for a girl~. She pushed her long blonde hair out of her face, and was pleased to find it still felt soft. She had a horrible thought that it might have gone frizzy with the change in atmosphere from deck to deck. That, coupled with her own sweat, she didn’t hold much hope for her looks. She was certain that even the drunk from ten-forward on a Friday night would turn her down should she offer. ~Not a good look at all...~ (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 11, Arboretum – ACSO Ensign Shayhiloosh – 2109) Shayhiloosh went to hir terminal in the Hydroponics office. They had power here on this level, and things were stable for now. Pulling up the schematics of the ship Shayhiloosh began to take a look at the ship layout and realized that from what s/he could see the saucer section had little power and that all of it was running on back up and batteries. Deck 10 was affected as well; Sickbay had no power either. Shayhiloosh tapped hir commbadge with a root tip. "Shayhiloosh to Sickbay." (Reply any in Sickbay) "Would you like some help in coordinating rescue efforts? I can help with that if you like, and then maybe we can be more effective," Shayhiloosh offered. George was glad that the bridge had decided to listen to him concerning the need to disable the power flow. If they had not, he would have felt terrible when the secondary conduits started overloading. He had just finished replacing the faulty chip with a properly functioning one when his commbadge chirped and a slightly annoyed sounding Debbie Weston spoke, =^=Weston to Walker. What’s going on?=^= "I found a faulty bus overload control chip in the main power bus for the primary Sickbay power node. The chip wasn't damaged. It was designed to allow the fail safes to fail and not register the power buildup. I think that there would have to be others in the Hades section to prevent the redundancies from catching the bleed over." George replied very seriously. =^=Need a hand? We’re up in Saucer Engineering. What can we do?=^= "I could use a hand checking all the power distribution busses for the faulty relay chips. I think once we replace them and repair the blown EPS conduit sleeves we should be right as rain." (reply Debbie) "Alright, " George replied. "I'm in section 5, 22C. I'll sweep the starboard relays and if you have anyone else to help, we could split up and cover the workload a lot faster." (reply Debbie) "Okay then Walker out" George closed the channel and glanced down at the body of his fallen shipmate. Somehow it was very blasphemous to simply carry on with his work when the man's body lay so close in such an undignified manner. George had seen death before and it had long ago failed to impress itself upon him. He couldn't waste much time, making the body presentable or waiting for someone to come and claim it. In the end he decided to garb his tools and carry on. He picked up his tool case and tapped his combadge. "Walker to the Morgue." =^=Morgue here.=^= "I have the body of crewman Jim Kemper here in Jefferies Tube 22C section 5. I need someone to come and pick up the body. Harry was just turning to lead the others to sickbay when the power flickered out again. “Oh great, what now?” she asked. "Maybe a secondary power grid failure?" Harry suggested. To his absolute joy Jon saw the shimmering sparkling of a transporter beam dematerialize Captain Sash and the torturous spike of deuterium that was imbedded deep in his bloody chest. The fact that Sash had been transported away was a good indication that the Catian ACMO had managed to stabilize him enough to beam away, most probably to Sick Bay, where there would be more power, nurses, medicines and Dr. Angeni to treat his serious injuries. As Sash vanished, ACMO R'Serrot give him the high sign and begin to rapidly walk in his direction.. ~Thank the Great Spirit for whatever brilliant engineering that had figured out a way to get the transporter functioning again,~ Jon rejoiced, almost tearfully. ~Whoever had accomplished this engineering miracle, I swear that I will put him in for a well deserved service commendation, Grandfather Of All Spirits.~ "Thank the Great Spirit for your healing wisdom Dr. R'Serrot," Jon complimented the taller Catian doctor with joy and unabashed deference. "Thinnk nnothing of it, Mrrr. Nnayati," R'Serrot said. "It wass jusst parrt of mmy duties, Counsselorr." (Reply CMO Trommashere, Jonas Lemar, Any) As Dr. R'Serrot hurried past him into the Emergency Sickbay, Jon spoke through his now open commbadge. "Counselor Nayati here to any injured on Deck 5. If you are injured but can't move, speak to me on this com-link. If you are too injured to speak, activate the trace frequency on your commbadge. We will find you, I promise. Counselor Nayati out." "Good call, Counsselorr," ACMO R'Serrot kind of half purred as the larger felinoid heard Jon's information gathering strategy. ~Likewise there is my telepathic option, for those injured crew person who were unconscious or too gravely wounded to cry out or tap on a commbadge for help,~ Jon reminded himself, feeling in control of himself and this dreadful situation once again. I'll sweep the starboard relays and if you have anyone else to help, we could split up and cover the workload a lot faster =^= Debbie was already moving away from her console and making her way toward the doorway. “Gotcha. I’ll take care of the port-side relays, and those in the forward section.” She looked over at Travis and Turner, “We can probably handle the ones in the aft section too.” =^= Okay then Walker out =^= Travis stayed put, “One of us should stay here and monitor the readings from the power buses.” “Well you can count me out,” said Weston, already at the doorway, keeping the door from closing. “I hate standing around and doing that sort of thing. I’m going to get my hands dirty!” She already had tricorder holstered, as well as a number of other tools slotted into her belt. Turner laughed and said, “I’ll stay. You go, Travis, you’re probably quicker than I am anyway.” He made his way to the master console, which still had a lot of function available, despite the minimal power. Right away he began to bring up the power grid diagnostic systems. “You bet I am.” Travis said with a smile, jogging over to where Weston was standing. She picked up her tricorder and sonic tools, ideal for swapping out the chips in the power nodes. “Debbie, you take the port-side, Dana, take the forward section. I’ll find someone to check the aft section.” With that, Weston and Travis headed out down the corridor and were gone. Just then there was another call over the comm. system. =^= Lt Jackson to Engineering - come in =^= “This is Ensign turner in Saucer Engineering. What can we do to help Tom?” Turner responded, recognising the voice of the OPS officer. =^= Our location is deck 7 - near the Security Center. We are ready to assist in any needed repairs. We need someone to check over the power nodes in the aft section on that deck.” He briefly explained what the problem was with the chip in the power buses. “You think you can handle it?” (reply: Jackson) “Then get to it. The responsibility for the Captain's life or death were in more skilled hands than his own now.. ~Give Dr. Thrommashere the skill, Knowledge and, of course, your blessing to heal him Grandfather Spirit,~ Jon prayed that as he informed dear Windsong of his plans to use his commbadge to search Deck 5 for other explosion survivors. =^=Affirmative, Counselor.=^= Jon's trained mind heard Dr. Windsong's voice soften. =^=It's good to hear you all are still up and moving about. I will send a report to you, Lemar, as soon as possible, sir. It's shaping up to be a long night, sir.=^= "I can't think of a better Doctor get through this or other dark night successfully, Dr. Angeni Windsong Trommashere, The Great Spirit will bless your hands, mind and medical arts, Angeni." Jon said in his best and most genuine instill-confidence voice There was a poignant, pregnant pause on Dr. .Angeni's side of their com-link Jon debated on how to respond to that silence and what say. ~I don't know whether to be therapeutic and nutrient, or professional and therapeutic. The bottom line isn't to give sweet, dear and now quiet distressed Angeni any kind of sideline emotional distraction, especially as it might negative impact on Captain Sash's hopes for continued survival, Great Spirit. Or any one else in Sick Bay for that matter, Great Spirit.~ ~Hell, we never even that second, and probably innocent, second date,~ Jon reminded himself sadly. ~ I'll happily redress that wrong when this current nightmare ends, and we're not up to our preverbal butts in not necessarily friendly Romulan boarders. The pregnant pause ended abruptly as Dr. Windsong spoke again. =^=.Hate to cut this short, but I am needed. Angeni Out..=^= "Hate it too Angeni, it seems like disasters keep we two apart. I'll try not to keep letting that happen, Angeni. Jon out." (Posted by Jim McCrary) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 10, Sickbay - CMO Angeni O. Windsong-Trommashere – 2115) Angeni sat in sickbay when she saw a shimmer out of the corner of her eye. ~A transport in this...must be important...~ Suddenly, her view was taken up by a gianormous metal bar, and someone lying there, pretty close to being dead. The entire room ground to a halt. They had seen some pretty amazing stuff, but this was beyond unusual. Her mug of coffee dropped to the floor, shattering into a million pieces. Ser's voice pierced the air. =/\=Doctor R’Serrot to Doctor Trommasherrre. Emerrrgency trrransport in prrrrogress. The Captain is on his way and his condition is crrrritical!=/\= "No Shit..." She said to no one in particular. With a slow, deliberate motion, she tapped her own badge. "Well, doc. Your message reached us a few seconds too late. We have the Captain...I was wondering what this was going to entail...no offense. We'll do everything we can...you know that. I have a whole slew of medics ready and waiting if you need them." (Reply Ser, if you want...) Angeni stood there, the entire room focused on her. They were all waiting for her to lead them into victory. Angeni just prayed that no one could see her hands shaking as violently as they were. "Alright. I'm going to need three medics to do nothing but hold onto that bar for everything you've got. Don't let it move anywhere. We're not going to be able to get a clamshell over him, so we're really going to have to go old school. The first thing I'm going to need is something to cut this bar in half, but even before that, we must remember our ABC's..." She used that as her starting point. Life could not exist without an Airway, Breathing, and Circulation. She walked to the head of the Captain, and she opened his pupils, checking for a response, remembering the few minutes they spent talking to one another in the Bay. She had never realized just how personable he was...and it just helped to make her job one of pure torture. Working on someone you hardly knew was one thing...working on someone like him was completely different. The Cherokee watched as his left eye sluggishly dilated, but how his right eye stayed completely contracted. She pulled out her stethoscope, pushing it to his chest gently, listening to the air rush lazily in and out of his right lung, but she closed her eyes at the lack of air moving into his left. Without a word, she tore what was left of his collar away from him, making a comment to those around her. "Make him naked, check for DCAP-BTLS. Sounds like I have a punctured lung on the left side. I'm going to need the thoracostomy kit." She ran her fingers down his trachea, swearing in Tsalgali. Completely deviated to the right, Jugular Venous Distention out the wazoo. She gestured to a wide eyed, newbie medic. "I want you to stand at his head and bag him. I want you to watch his breathing. If he drops below eight, intubate!" She managed to find a sterilizer and she ran her hands under it, and she pulled out a laser scalpul. Pushing a few buttons, she sighed happily as she saw the blue haze at the tip of the instrument. Looking at the kit, she pulled it up next to him, setting up the negative pressure drain. "This is something you'll only see once in your life on a Star Ship...maybe twice..." She put her fingers against his chest, feeling along his ribs. A glance to those holding the bar made them grab it, stabilizing it better. She found her landmarks; bottom of the third rib, third intercostal space, and the top of the fourth rib. She took a sterile marker, drawing a big red line just under the third rib. It was easy in the heat of the moment to try to slide under the third rib, but that would be more likely to kill him than anything else. She took the sterlizer, running it over his chest. "Get the eight by ten op-site ready as well as number 10 thread with a needle, forceps, and alligator clamp. This is going to get messy very quickly..." Taking one more deep breath, she took the scalpel, running it just below the red line. In an instant, the pristine flesh erupted into small, rivulets of blood. She adjusted the settings on the scalpel, and she cut deeper, each time she did, she noticed the posturing of the Captain. His arms and legs would move...away from his body. "Hyperventillate him...NOW!" The medic began squeezing the bag for all he was worth. Angeni set back to work, checking the layers as she went. She felt with her fingers; the pleural membrane was all that was left. Right behind the membrane was a lung portion. She picked up the forceps and a wad of Gauze. With one snip, a gush of blood came pouring out of his chest. The young doctor looked as if she had bathed in it as it splashed over her. She shoved the gauze in the hole, taking the moment to grab her tube. In one swift motion, she put the tube in the hole, removing the gauze. She put a few whip stitches in just to hold the tube in place, and she smiled as the nurse came over, putting the Op-Site over the wound. "Okay...I need him knocked down and tubed...you know the drill." As she stepped back, pondering the squishiness of her shoes, a voice permiated the air. =/\=Nayati to Lemar and Dr. Trommashere. Captain Sash has just transported, presumably to main Sickbay. Dr. R'Serrot is still here.=/\= ~Jon!~ Her heart lept into her throat momentarily, but she shoved it back down, her voice steady. "Captain Sash is here, we're working on him now." =/\=I am going to use my active commbadge to attempt to determine if there are still any conscious injured on this deck, and give a status report.=/\= "Affirmative, Counselor." Her voice softened ever so slightly. "It's good to hear you all are still up and moving about. I will send a report to you, Lemar, as soon as possible, sir. It's shaping up to be a long night, sir." She wanted to ask how Jon himself was doing, but she restrained herself. Bells and whistles started going off, and she put her head down for a moment. ~Give me strenght...~ "I hate to cut this short, but I am needed. Angeni Out..." With that, she sighed softly and dove back into the pool. (Posted by Kari) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 5, Emergency Sickbay - CCOUNS Ensign Jon Nayati – 2116) Jon had no sooner gotten off com with Dr. Windsong when two other crew men chripped in over his commbadge. Jon was able to obtain the locations of, Drey and Ra'Mon via their verbal location reports, which he then relayed to the Main Sick Bay. There was Lt. Marta Dray and Trill Ensign Rax Ra'Mon. Lt. Drey was off duty plasma engineer who was trapped under hull debris, had a broken left leg and some fairly painful second degree electrical arc burns on her lower left facial quadrant. Marta Dray was going to need pain killers, dermal sealers and regenerates. In addition she would also need a bone regenerator after she was lifted out from under the heavy hull wreckage was now trapping her there . The symbiot less Trill woman was merely bruised and shaken up, it would be relatively easy for her to get he and Dr. R'Serrot's Emergency Sick Bay on her own power. Jon acknowledged both women via his commbadge, told the Trill Life Scientist Officer to Dr. R'Serrot and the Deck 5 ESB. After procuring the necessary medicines, regenerative saves and lst aide equipment Jon headed out to render aide and assistance to Lt. Marta Drey, who was furthest away from his present ESB's location On the way to find Lt. Drey Jon received locational chirps' from four other crew that were too badly injured to respond verbally. Jon relayed that data to R'Serrot and the Main Sick Bay as soon as it occurred. Using a basic triage' mind set, Jon tried to minister to the closest and, from their inability to respond verbally, the most serious impaired. Unfortunately, though he was able to locate all but one all the four unfortunates that signaled him, Jon found all to be too grievously damaged to be saved. One was totally flash fried by an arcing electricity, one had recently been impaled by a flying metal shard as one of the emergency force field had momentarily but lethally failed. Another victim was three-froths crushed under falling hull and support pylon debris. All three men had either chirped him as they were dying, or were dying even as Jon found them. The most terrible thing about all the useless and terrible carnage was that Jon's telepathic mind frequently caught the last and excruciating pain and mental death throes of those dying individuals he passed along the toward Lt. Marta Drey . ~Primal, excruciating pain, blind clutching fear and the sudden accelerating sliding of a failing mind falling irreversibly and forever down into the screaming, gaping maw of utter blackness far more frigid, windy and ravenous than the even the darkest nights on Necron Red II. ~ Those terrible final moment snippets were the ghastly images and sensations that assailed Jon's partially open thought speaker's mind as he slowly and carefully traversed the grim, bloody and wreckage filled space that seperated him from the trapped and badly injured plasma engineer Marta Drey. Jon saw and felt the minds of those now that were even perishing around him, and who were so far gone nothing sort of divine intervention could save them. That was the ultimate terror, the terrible curse, of being a NCRII thought speaker, to know and intimately experience the last thoughts and last terrors of those Necron Reds that died around you. Was it any wonder that so many thought speakers on Necron Red II were totally insane, or suicidal? Especially if a thought speaker didn't believe in both the Great Spirit or the Happy Hunting Ground.~ The mental fortitude that a NCR telepath needed to resist the dread terror and utter existential horror of Death's black abyss was why the surviving NCRII thought speakers were such a singular and strong minded lot, himself included. Jon reminded himself of that as he administered the last of rather extreme first aid that was needed to restore Ensign Drey to semi-normal health. By the time he got Marta Drey up and moving, Jon's light sensitive eyes were burning orbs, his stomach was a micro-second away from spasming, and his brain was screaming like a psychic banshee. Suddenly and only for a terrifying moment, Jon found himself flash backed to any number of such nightmare days on NCR II, With iron willed determination Jon forced himself to half walk, half carry the newly treated, largely regenerated but still partially weakened Marta Drey back toward R'Serrot and the Hades ESB. By the time Jon got Lt. Drey there Jon virtually exhausted and was exceedingly glad that he didn't have to think about treacherous Romulans and the possibly guilty and malefic Aide Razel Grim for the moment. "Mission accomplished FO Lemar," Jon said wearily, touching his commbadge. "I found everyone I could find in my vicinity. Counselor Nayati out." (Posted by Jim McCrary) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 10, Sickbay – CMO Angeni O. Windsong-Trommashere - 2117) Angeni stood silently for a moment, her heart momentarily stilled by listening to Jon. He had a way about just helping her to keep focus. A gentle blush reddened her cheeks, but the moment was quelled by the bells and whistles of the cardiac monitor going off. She turned slowly, looking at the biobed, and she gasped; blood was running off the biobed, making a crimson puddle on the floor. "Son of a..." She ran over, pulling on gloves rather than wasting time with the sterilizer. She looked at the tube, and she looked at the Captain who was writhing around on the bed. "I need a hand over here!" She watched as the chest tube slipped out of its home, and she promptly put her finger in the wound. Tracheial deviation was occuring again, but his neck veins were flat. "Start whole blood replacement therapy. At least six units...HURRY!!!" With one hand, she jammed the replacement tube in the Captain's chest. She sewed it on tight, and she watched as a minimal amount of blood poured into the suction container. She wanted to wait, but she couldn't; the steel bar had to come out, and now. "I need three nurses, two medics, a respiratory tech, and another surgeon. Everyone else, get out of the way. We need to take this bar out, and now." As people began trading places, she could see the look of fear in their eyes. The idea of the Captain being injured in such a horrific capacity could knock even the most hardened doctors off their high horse. She made her voice calm, and she stood up, addressing everyone within earshot. "I know this is rough, but I need everyone to be strong. Just think of him as another patient, no different from any one of us..." With everyone prepared to don their sterile dress, she pulled everyone into the bed, calling out. "Computer, erect a level ten containment field around surg. bed three. Purge microbes, sterile enviroment." The computer chimed, and after a moment, everyone began to don their equipment. She kept dressing, all the while praying for the speedy recovery of her Captain and the sound minds of everyone who was working with her. Once everyone was ready, she began going through the game plan; she was going to make a window incision to see just what the bar was and wasn't holding, after that...she had no clue. She was just going to work up. Looking at everyone around her, she nodded gently, and with a sweeping motion, she made her first cuts. "Retractor...rib spreader please..." She moved quickly into the chest cavity, and she flipped on her head lamp. What she saw before her nearly made her sick. The cold steel plunged through his chest, completely going through his ascending aorta, but the bar was holding pressure on the disected vessel. "Magill forceps, Alligator Clamps please..." She looked at her supplied, and she breathed out her medical orders. "Watch neurologic function, blood pressure, and neuro circulation. I need to clamp off the ascending aorta. Cut me a three centimeter piece of poly-vinyl...I'm going to use that to patch the hole in the aorta." She took a deep breath, and in one swift motion, she clamped off the aorta at both ends. She looked up at the medics who were holding onto the bar. "Pull...slowly and steadily. I'll tell you if you need to stop." She peered into the hole, and she watched as the steel slid out. As the jagged edge left the aorta, she held her breath, praying wildly that the clamps held. She watched as she had minimum blood loss as the bar left the chest with a loud sucking noise. Stitching the poly-vinyl was another story. Each time the needle pierced a section of the edge of the artery, it bled like crazy. With the final stitch in place, she let go of the clamps, and she marveled at how well the vinyl held. Within weeks, the vinyl would disolve away as the edges of the aorta healed back together. With an exhausted sigh, she looked towards the other surgeon. "Alright, go through, make sure there are no bleeders, and have fun closing up. Keep the chest tube in...I want the output checked every few hours." With the surgical field draped in sterile cloth, those that were changing out waited for the command to leave the field. Angeni left, walking into her office, and she put her head down, trying to catch a minute or two of rest. Maraht.=/\= "Maraht here, go ahead." Engineer Fuller's voice sounded subdued and shaken. =/\=We checked the chips like you said, Sir. There was one that was intact and showed no sign of burnout even though the bus to the power node had clearly been overloaded. We had to replace the EPS tap sleeve and some other minor connections along with the faulty chip.=/\= Maraht said, "Acknowledged Engineer Fuller. When shall we have sensors back online?" He hated feeling blind and vulnerable here in space without sensors to be their vision. He couldn't help but wonder what the Romulans were thinking, but he firmly reminded himself that was not his job. Cmdr Lemar would just have to take care of that while Maraht had a ship to repair. =/\=You should have internal and external sensors very soon sir. We are about to crank it up.=/\= "Copy that Crewman Fuller. Let's see how it goes," replied Maraht, anxious to get the sensory system back to help deal with this situation. ~Great Lava, Mother of us all, bless our efforts. Do whatever it takes to have Fuller and his team be both safe and successful.~ Abruptly parts of his console that had been dark lit up and telemetry information began streaming in. The main viewscreen lit up again. "Engineer Fuller, good job to you and your team!" =/\=Thanks Chief.=/\= "Commander Lemar, we have sensors back," reported Maraht. "I am running internal scans now." (Reply Jonas Lemar) "Sections four to nine of Deck 5 have been damaged. Most of our power nodes in the saucer section are still offline until they can be thoroughly checked for the faulty chips. Sickbay is still on back up emergency power. We have lost containment of atmosphere in the Chief of Security Office, though I have had reports of Lt. Trinin reaching Main Sickbay. So far the environment and atmosphere is holding everywhere else. Our computer core remains intact without damage including our secondary." Maraht paused, unhappy to report what he had to say next. A ripple of unease went through his finer phalange as he spoke. "Sir, we have had casualties. I will be able to determine the exact count in a moment." The life signs scan ran its course and then Maraht spoke up again. "Sir, we have had eight casualties, most on Deck 5. Wounded crew are trying to get to Main Sickbay or to the Emergency Sickbay on Deck 5, since the turbolifts are still offline." (Posted by Sheila Mayer) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 1, Main Bridge – FO Commander Jonas Lemar - 2118) The last fifteen minutes had been billed with events of all different kinds. From Counsellor Nayati’s report that the Ambassador was dead, to the rescue of both the Captain and the Security Chief, bad news to good news, problems to solutions. As long as things came in that order he didn’t really mind. Now if only they could stop finding new problems and focus on just the solutions, he could get back to being the jolly first officer he preferred to be. With the final sections of deck 5 currently being surveyed by Counsellor Nayati’s team, and some system repairs being complete by Lieutenant Jackson, it sounded to Jonas that things were already looking brighter. That said, the Ambassador was still dead, and with him, there was a distinct possibility that the mission was too. Part of him wanted to turn the ship around, retreat back to Federation space for full repairs and medical facilities for the injured, but there was a strong voice inside him that stopped him from choosing that course of action. ~What would the Captain do?~ he continued to ask himself, a little uncertain of the answer. But then another internal voice would tell Jonas that he was his own person, and that if he believed he could still succeed, then he should damn well go ahead and do it. So the Captain was critically injured; he was in the best possible place, and with both Wendy and Angeni to take care of him, was there any place he would be better off? ~I could always help, myself~ he thought, never forgetting that he was first and foremost a doctor at heart. He had learnt from the best and had been told by many that he was amongst them, but he was always too modest to agree with them. =^= Mission accomplished FO Lemar =^= came a weary voice over the comm. system that disturbed Jonas from his indecision. =^= I found everyone I could find in my vicinity. Counselor Nayati out =^= Accepting the report with a smile, Jonas said, “Yes, things are definitely on the up.” Jonas was vaguely aware that other conversations were going on around the bridge. Maraht, at the forward station, was coordinate much of the repairs with others of his team on deck 5 and the surrounding areas. Lieutenant Ammon was still adjusting the inside of her console to make the THIS system work correctly, or as accurately as she possibly could. Just then, there was a ‘powering up’ sound as some of the consoles that had previously been dull, sparked to life. “Commander Lemar, we have sensors back," reported Maraht. “I am running internal scans now.” Jonas looked up and noticed the viewscreen flickered slightly then returned to an external view of the ship. He assumed it was the forward view. “Great news Lieutenant. See if you can get me a details damage report. I wanna know truly how bad this thing is.” It took Maraht only a few moments to run the scans before he began to reel off the details of the report. “Sections four to nine of Deck 5 have been damaged. Our computer core remains intact without damage including our secondary.” Jonas nodded with each detail as he listened to it. ~So far it’s pretty much as I already thought~ He looked over at the Horta, wondering why he had paused. He seemed hesitant, but then said, “Sir, we have had casualties. I will be able to determine the exact count in a moment.” The life signs scan took only a few seconds to run, before Maraht spoke up again. “Sir, we have had eight casualties, most on Deck 5. Wounded crew are trying to get to Main Sickbay or to the Emergency Sickbay on Deck 5, since the turbolifts are still offline.” “Eight?” Jonas echoed, then looked down at his PADD, assuming that Maraht meant fatalities seeing as they had already received more than eight casualty reports from wounded officers. ~Eight deaths...~ he repeated again in his mind, wondering how they had managed to lose so many in such a short space of time. ~It could have been a lot worse~ he reasoned with himself, knowing full well that if it weren’t for the efforts of this highly trained crew, the entire ship could have been destroyed. “Very well. Good job on the sensors Maraht. Hopefully, we’ll get those turbolifts back when the power comes back. How much longer on that now?” Jonas looked at his calculation he had made on his dataPADD. It could take another 45 minutes at least for Walker to check all of the power nodes himself. “Maraht, divert more teams to check the power nodes on Deck 5. I want power restoration our top priority!” (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Jefferies Tube 28B, Section 17 – Engineer George Walker – 2125) George dropped back down to the deck and dropped his spanner into the open lid of his repair kit. With the back of his hand he wiped the sweat away from his eyes before tapping his commbadge. "Walker to Weston." (reply Weston) "My section is now clear. I've a handful of bad chips and replaced three of the ruptured conduits. How do we stand?" (posted by Daniel Greene) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 5, Jefferies Tube – Engineer Debbie Weston – 2126) Debbie climbed through to the next access hatch and stood up. She had been crawling for the last 20 minutes or so and she was still smiling, which was something of a novelty right now. It seemed that very little was going right, at least not all the way right, and she was beginning to think she was only person on the ship that was actually fixing things. Luckily for her, Turner had offered to stay behind in Saucer Engineering and monitor the power buses from there. He had managed to get a total of six different teams to check the nodes, thanks to some extra help from Lieutenant Maraht on the bridge. He had diverted his OPS teams to assist, and it had quickened up the pace dramatically. At the rate thins were going, they’d have things fixed in no time at all. As she moved over to a small control panel, she tapped in a code and it popped open a little. Flicking the latch, Debbie pulled it out all the way and began to check the chips one by one with her tricorder. As her scanner began to bleed a warning, she reached in and grabbed one of the chip and carefully pulled it out of the slot. “There you are you little b**tard.” She slid it into the left side of her pouch, then reach into the right side and pulled out a new chip to replace it with. Leaning over she slotted it into place with a click and she used her tricorder to check the others. =^= Walker to Weston =^= Satisfied that no other faulty chips were present, she pushed the panel back into place and it locked with another click. “Hey George, how’s it going?” =^= My section is now clear. I've a handful of bad chips and replaced three of the ruptured conduits. How do we stand? =^= “Snap!” she replied, holstering her own tricorder. “I’ve not come across any bad conduits, but I’ve replaced about five different chips” She reached into her back pocket and pulled out a dataPADD and looked it over. “My section is done now, and I think Turner will have other sections cleared in a few minutes.” Sliding the PADD back into her pocket, she reopened the access hatch and began to crawl back inside. “I’m heading back up to Saucer Engineering. Great work Walker. Weston out.” (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 1, Main Bridge - Security Officer T'Sol - 2130.5) ~Eighty minutes to reach the bridge is too long.~ T'Sol chastised herself. Of course the thought that there could have been Romulan boarders aboard ship, and that the possibility dictated that she sweep the decks as she went were not acceptable reasons to have caused such a delay. Couple that with the fact that certain access shafts were inaccessible and that the security team had stopped to render aid to wounded crew as they were encountered further slowed their progress as well. Thus eighty minutes. T'Sol crouched underneath the primary engineering access crawlway that would open out onto the bridge. With the Turbolifts down, she and her small security team had been forced to snake their way through the guts of the ship to get to this point. She had manually disengaged the security overrides for the hatch and even now, her security personnel were preparing to storm the bridge from each of the three separate access panels just like hers. He watched the chronometer on her wrist and at the very moment that it reached the agreed upon time, she threw the hatch open and pulled her self rapidly through the opening and onto the main bridge. Her access panel deposited her close to the Operations section, and T'Sol quickly took in the condition and situation as she exited and raised her phaser rifle looking for any signs of Romulan invaders. Ensigns Rosario, Carter, and Motlek had come onto the bridge just as quickly and between the four security officers there were no places on the bridge where anyone could hide. That left a very few other options. T'Sol nodded as she passed by Maraht, now relatively certain that there were no Romulans on the bridge. She lowered her rifle and signaled for the other security officers to do the same. The Vulcan security officer moved to Lemar and came to a respectful position of attention. "Sorry for the delay commander," she said, "we were hindered by emergency forcefields, injured crew and partially damaged bulkheads. Is all well here?" (posted by Daniel Greene) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 1, Main Bridge – FO Commander Jonas Lemar - 2131) =^= Commander, Ensign Turner here in saucer engineering. All the chips have been checked and we’ve had to replace a good twenty to thirty of them. We’re good to go now though =^= Jonas lowered his PADD at once, grasped the two arms of the command chair and leaned forward, ready to propel himself into a standing position. ~At last, just the news I’ve been waiting for~ and with that he stood up and stood at the top of the steps that led down to the forward station. “What are you waiting for Mr. Turner, bring all the power nodes online.” =^= Aye sir =^= came a short response from the engineer. Moments later, the lights came back on again as power was restored to the entire bridge. The consoles light up fully as they regained their full functions, and with the work that Lieutenant Maraht and his teams had completed, they were ready to command the Hades once more. Jonas watched as Maraht and Ammon both checked over their consoles, and as he received affirmative nods from them both, he breathed his own sign of relief. “All we need now is some bridge staff.” Jonas said, half kidding, half serious. At almost that precise second, a hatch burst open to the portside, together with one to aft, fore, and starboard. Instinctively, Jonas reached for his hand phaser, passed to him when the power out first occurred over an hour ago. From the hatches emerged armed security guards, one from each direction and each one with their rifles raised in anticipation. Jonas relaxed his hand, and allowed it to drop to his side briefly as he recognised Ensign T’Sol, who had now lowered her weapon and signalled for the others to do the same. “Sorry for the delay commander,” she said, “we were hindered by emergency forcefields, injured crew and partially damaged bulkheads. Is all well here?” The Vulcan security officer looked at Jonas with a half raised eyebrow. “All is well here, Ensign. We just got the power back and primary systems are coming back online now.” Jonas smiled, expecting to have seen the security officer quite some time ago. ~Oh well, she’s here now~ Just as Jonas was about to call ‘good timing’, the turbolift doors opened and out stepped Finlay Guarastine, together with Wendy. “Wendy!” he called out, the sight of the ACMO overwhelming his other thoughts. He didn’t register that obviously the turbolifts had been restored, thanks to the power being turned back on. “I’m glad you’re alright.” Wendy approached Jonas and took him by both hands, “I’m fine, which is more than I can say for many others.” She smiled only weakly, her thoughts drifting to those she had seen dead, killed by varying effects from the overload. She looked around and noticed that any injuries sustained by the present bridge crew appeared to have been treated. ~Jonas the medic~ thought Wendy to herself, a warm feeling filling her insides. “If you are not in need of my services, I will head back to sickbay. They might need me there.” Jonas looked grave for a moment, “Yes, the Captain’s condition is quite critical. You better get there as quickly as you can.” He looked over Wendy’s shoulder at an officer beside her. ~I don’t recognise that one~ thought Jonas with a frown. Noticing the first officers enquiring glance, Wendy smiled ~Perfect time for an introduction...~ and as she turned to grab McKenzie by the arm and pull him forward she said, “This is Ensign Kenneth McKenzie. I found him lurking in the sickbay.” (reply: McKenzie) ~Oh yes, I do recall something about a new transfer~ Jonas recalled, forgetting for a moment about anything that happened before all this went down. “A pleasure to meet you Ensign.” Jonas moved to shake the Ensign’s hand, “I’m afraid we’re a little busy right now,” he offered a hand around the whole room, as if to show the Ensign his bridge, “but if you can man a Science Station, see what you glean from that console over there.” Jonas indicated an unmanned console over to the right-side of Maraht. “Once we get settled, we can get hold of the quartermaster and see about getting you somewhere to call your own.” (reply: McKenzie) Wendy sloped off without much more a word, and soon Jonas was left with a now fully crewed bridge. “Lieutenant Guarastine, status of the engines?” By now, Finlay Guarastine had made her way to the forward console and seated herself next to Maraht. “Engines are online and responsive.” She looked over at Maraht and smiled, wondering what he had gotten up to while she had been gone. No doubt he had done a lot of work through others in his department – or least so she thought. She looked down at her nails, and at the state of them looked away and made fists with her hands, hiding them. “Shall I resume course, sir?” Jonas thought for a moment, and then his decision was made. “Yes Lieutenant, resume course...” No thoughts about ‘what the captain might do’ entered his head as he took a few steps down the small flight in front of him, “...and speed, if possible.” “Yes sir, resuming course and speed.” Finlay’s hands danced at her controls. Luckily, they hadn’t taken much in the way of damage during this whole affair. Everything seemed to be working perfectly ... so far. Tapping his comm. badge, Jonas turned and moved back toward the command seat. “This is Commander Lemar to all senior staff. I want preliminary status reports on my desk in one hour. There will also be a staff meeting tomorrow at 1000.” He tapped at his comm. badge to close the channel. He then looked over at Ensign T’Sol, “T’Sol, I want you to get on to your men and find Brianna Frazier. I want her in the Captain’s ready room in 10 minutes...” Jonas began to make his way toward the port-side corridor, “...that is, assuming no emergency forcefields or damaged bulkheads get in your way.” (reply: T’Sol) As he stepped down to the lower level he called over his shoulder, “Lieutenant Ammon, you have the bridge.” (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 1, Main Bridge - Security Officer T'Sol - 2131.5) “T’Sol, I want you to get on to your men and find Brianna Frazier. I want her in the Captain’s ready room in 10 minutes...” Jonas began to make his way toward the port-side corridor, “...that is, assuming no emergency forcefields or damaged bulkheads get in your way.” There was an iciness to his tone, a neatly obscured recrimination for her performance earlier. "She nodded before replying, " If need be commander I'll assign plasma torches to every security team. She'll be here as directed." The first officer turned away from here and headed for the ready room. T'Sol still stinging from the very unvulcan feelings that were coursing through her head turned and headed for the turbolift. (posted by Daniel Greene) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Turbo lift - Security Officer T'Sol - 2132) "Deck 7," she said as she stepped into the lift then tapped her commbadge. (reply Tarus) "Very good T'Sol out." "Computer where is Lieutenant Baylon Trinin?" [Lieutenant Trinin is in Sickbay] ~Sickbay?~ "Computer reroute this turbo lift to main sickbay" [Turbo lift rerouted] T'Sol held the railing as the Turbolift car slightly changed direction. Ammon Ranae - 2135) Ranae instinctively reached for her side arm when several hatches simultaneously burst open and bodies began emerging from them. It was fortunate that the lights had been returned to full power and she could see right away that it was Ensign T'Sol and her team together with some medical officers. Holstering her phaser, Ranae finished the work she'd been doing on the THIS, reconfiguring it with her own personal settings which had all been lost when it had been offline due to the explosion. Engrossed in what she was doing, she really wasn't listening to the conversations going on until she heard her name called by the First Officer, telling her that she had the Bridge. With a nod, Ranae relinquished the primary Tactical station to the Tac Officer who was trying to mend the secondary station, though not having much luck from the looks of it. It was just to badly fried. She gingerly sat down in the Captain's chair for the first time ever, feeling rather self-conscious about it and almost a little guilty, as if she had no right to be sitting in any of the command chairs, never mind the Captain's. ~Get over it Ranae!~ She told herself, forcing herself to relax and sit back in it as if she'd done this time and time again. The FO headed to the Ready Room and Ranae had no idea how long he'd be gone. She looked over to the First officer behind the his desk and gave him a look that could have “It is intended for your own safety, Miss Frazier” said Jonas, sensing the initial hostility and trying to be reassuring. “Yes well, is it really necessary now?” she said, removing her hands from her hips and moving to the seat in front of the desk. “Anyway, are you going to tell me what’s going on? I’ve been holed up in ten-forward for the past two hours and the security guard won’t tell me a thing.” She lowered herself into the seat and gave Jonas a look that said ‘tell me everything, now!’. Jonas was certain what he wanted to tell her first, what he needed to tell her first. “Miss Frazier...” he started, then decided familiarity might be the best way to go, “...Bree. There was a power overload in the EPS systems on deck 5. It happened very close to where the Captain and the Ambassador had been walking, on their way to the bridge.” The frustration dropped from her face like creases from a sheet, instantly replaced by thoughts of concern. “Are they okay?” She began to get very apprehensive, “Where’s Jericho? Can I see him?” Jonas’s look remained strong as he delivered the pill. “Ambassador Nolan is dead, Bree.” Bree just wanted to deny it, to say it wasn’t so, but she could sense clearly that the first officer was being deadly serious, that deep inside he too was hurting because of this. She said nothing, didn’t look away, but she seemed to disappear for a moment into her own mind. Jonas could see she was looking despondent, and although he hated to interrupt the grieving process, he needed to ask some difficult questions. “Brianna, I know this isn’t an ideal time...” started Jonas. Bree seemed to snap out of her bubble in the instant that Jonas started to speak. She knew instinctively what he was going to say. She had been a command officer herself once, so she knew exactly where the commanders’ priorities would lie. “I know,” she started, cutting off the first officer in mid speech. “You need to talk about the mission, right?” She looked at him, and he smiled meekly at her in response. She tried her utmost to push back her flailing emotions and asked, “How much time did we spend standing still?” She knew that these events had caused a delay, and she knew that delay would not be appreciated by the Romulans. A little thrown by Frazier’s response, Jonas quickly gathered his thoughts and answered, “A little less than 90 minutes.” Bree nodded and quickly began to think about how she was going to accomplish this mammoth task. Up until now, she had always worked in Nolan’s shadow. Now that shadow was gone, she was going to have to push aside her own prejudices about the team and get the job done. “Then we need to get our stories straight for when we reach the border.” “So you think we should proceed?” said Jonas, not altogether surprised by the suggestion. It was really what he was hoping for. Frazier shook her head, looking as if the suggestion was a little ridiculous. “Don’t get me wrong. I’m no Jericho Nolan, but I can still pull this off, I’m certain of it!” There was trace of doubt in her eyes, but deep inside Bree had a tiny molecule of doubt. Nolan had very large shoes and years of experience. She only hoped that she could pull off a good enough show for the Romulans. “I hope you’re right...” answered Jonas with a smile and a nod. He moved to pick up a dataPADD and fingered the buttons, “...because I’ve already decided to proceed with the mission. We’re back on course now and will likely cross the border in 20 minutes.” As he looked up, he wondered if she knew what they should say to the Romulans. No doubt they would be expecting Captain Sash and Ambassador Nolan. With neither of them present, would they even be able to cross the border? Brianna could sense easily that the first officer had his doubts. “Then I should be on the bridge when we arrive. We might have some difficult questions ahead.” That was an understatement if ever there was one. She had no idea how the Romulans would react to her. She also had some doubts that Starfleet would be happy to hear she was to take over the negotiations. All too aware that she had said nothing regarding her feelings so far, Jonas started “I know it’s hard...” He didn’t claim to be a counsellor, but he figured he might get some kind of reaction from the empath. “Sorry Commander, but I’d rather we didn’t have this conversation now. I’ve got too many other things to think about.” With that Bree looked away and stood up from her seat. She made her way to the door and looked back at Jonas over her shoulder. She opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out. Instead she simply smiled at him, then turned and made an exit from the room. In a way, Jonas understood her, and he even applauded her. He only hoped she would give herself time to grieve once the hard work was done. (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 1, Ready Room – FO Commander Jonas Lemar – 2145) Jonas sat for a moment, knowing that he would have to submit some kind of report to Starfleet Command. They would need to know that the Captain had been incapacitated, but then he didn’t want to give them the opportunity to pull the plug on the mission. So without giving it too much more thought, he picked up a PADD with some of his notes and said, “Computer, open log and started recording.” The computer chirped acknowledgement. “First Officer’s log, Stardate 2408.01.02. I am sorry to report that Ambassador Nolan is dead, and the Captain is in sickbay, in a critical condition. At approximately 2000 hours, we suffered an EPS overload in the power matrix on deck 5. The result was an explosion that not only breeched the hull on decks 4 through 6, but it also severed power and computer control to the entire saucer section. The exact cause of the overload is still under investigation, but initial reports seem to suggest faulty hardware in many of the primary power nodes on deck 5. Casualty reports number in the thirties, and Doctor Trommashere reports at least 5 fatalities, including the Ambassador. Repairs are currently underway, and power and computer control has been restored to much of the saucer section, although deck 5 continues to remain offline in most areas. This could be a major hiccup in the mission and I’m in two minds as to whether proceeding is a good idea at all. According to Brianna Frazier, to turn back now might cause hostilities with the Romulans, and she is certain she can complete the negotiations in place of the Ambassador. I don’t like it at all, and against my better judgement we are proceeding to Romulus. I only hope that we suffer no further ‘coincidental’ accidents, and that the rest of the mission goes without challenge. I realise that is a high hope to uphold, but the last thing I need to deal with is an intergalactic incident. Along with the Captain, my Chief Engineer, Norman Harper, and my Chief of Security, Baylon Trinin, are both in sickbay, having suffered injuries as a result of the power overload. Both are said to be recovering well, and Lieutenant Trinin is set to return to duty within the hour. Harper however, will require a little more attention from our good doctors. As for the Captain, I know very little right now. His condition is still critical and Doctor Trommashere is doing everything she can to treat his injuries. I am still waiting on the final report from sickbay. I have to say, I am surprised that we have not yet heard from the Romulans. I expected to see at least one ship by now. Perhaps they are following us under cloak, or perhaps they are just not following us at all. Either way, I am not sure if I would prefer that they turned up or not. Right now, I’d take an easy ride and a little time in bed.” After a brief pause Jonas added, “Computer, end log.” As the computer acknowledged his command Jonas added, “Encrypt a copy of this log and submit it to Starfleet Command via subspace communication.” [Subspace communications are currently off-line] Rolling his eyes, Jonas pushed himself away from his desk and said, “Then store communication and send packet when they ARE online.” This time the computer acknowledged him and said nothing further. ~Right then Jonas, you have to prepare to speak with some Romulans~ he thought to himself, taking a deep breath and moving over to the view port. He could see his own reflection, and he could look a lot better. “I better clean myself up a little,” he said quietly to himself, moving to exit the ready room and make a stop at his quarters. There was a bright light shining directly into his face and for a moment he wondered if he was seeing the celestial temple that he had heard Ranae speak about so many times. He was a little bit disappointed when his vision cleared and a surgical lamp came into crisp focus. He was obviously in sickbay, his body covered with a warm blanket and an antiquated IV stuck into his arm. His face and hands burned, but Baylon noticed that his ribs didn't hurt any longer. He had no idea how long he had been there or if he had been seriously hurt. He raised his left hand to move aside a stray lock of hair when he noticed his pinkie finger was mission. The soft pink of scar tissue terminated the digit just as it left the hand. He regarded it for a few moments, sighed and returned it to his side. He contemplated checking his other hand and his toes to see if any others were missing, but decided that he would wait, although he couldn't help but sneak a peak at his right hand, which thankfully still had all his fingers. His eyes were caught by movement of to the side and Baylon turned his head to look at the lovely Doctor Windsong heading in his direction. He forced a smile, which caused his entire face to ache. He couldn't maintain it long, so he let it fall just as the doctor reached him. Ardena Carrow - 2200 ) To say she was tired would be a gross understatement. She felt she should be gluing her eyelids open. Everyone always talked about half-vulcan stamina and strength, but she had been on the go for what seemed like an eternity. Never getting quite enough sleep, never stopping motion, never stopping the emotional roller coaster. And here it was, once again, time when she should be going to bed and getting sleep, she was having an impromptu meeting in science. "Okay, what's been requested of us is a summation of damage to our labs, work stations and equipment. If you can get that done by 1200 tomorrow engineering and the quartermaster would be grateful. If you don't think you can make the deadline, let me know." Was it selfish to be grateful she hadn't had the chance to set up her office yet? That everything precious to her was somewhere between the Spectre and Starbase Geneva? "I haven't had a chance to review files yet, but I need two volunteers to assist Security and Engineering with CSI. Anyone qualified?" (Replies if any) Ardena was more than happy to assign them to helping out security. She figured the more people felt they were fixing the damage done to ship and crew the better they'd feel. "Once we've managed to get all this sorted out, we still have all that data to sort through and process. I've been looking over the lab request schedules, but since labs 2 and 6 are currently rubble, I've request secondary holosuite use. I suspect though, *every* department is going to be trying to use the holodecks for something, so we'll probably be in a holding pattern. Make do with what you can." (Replies if any) "I haven't had a chance to review much - I will confess I got a bit distracted recently," she offered a rueful smile at the understatement, "But I would like the science merit contest to continue ASAP as well as the science classes. The faster we get things back to normal the better it'll be for the children." She sighed, "Though, I suspect, a lot of questions in the new few days from the children are going to be about the explosion. Explain and teach as best as able, technical side is good, try to avoid the emotional, I'd think." What did she know about children? Not much other than she'd been one. She'd never expected to having to include them in her tactics and planning of a science department! (Replies if any) Ardena smiled, "Since my office seems to be missing part of its outer bulkhead, Shayhiloosh has generously offered to share hir office." She gave the Arborian a fond smile. "Any questions or problems?" (Posted by Lorna) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 10, Sickbay - CMO Angeni O. Windsong-Trommashere - 2207) Angeni stood beside Baylon, noting something on a padd. She reached under the biobed, retreiving another bag of very warm Lactated Ringers. She piggy-backed the second bag, and she checked the temperature of the Kangaroo Blanket. She pulled her hair back into a low hanging bun as she checked over his extremities. She nodded approvingly at everything, but her eyes held a tired gaze that seemed to sink to her very soul. She pulled up a chair, going over his padd, speaking in low, soft tones to Baylon. "You scared me for a minute there. I haven't done a passive external rewarming in a while, but it worked. I have a sugar solution running into your veins right now to help support your muscles. Your fingers and toes fortunately had very little if any frost bite, except for the one." She winced as if it were her own hand that had been shorn an appendage. She never liked having to remove body parts, but with no blood flow, it would have caused serious illness before it would've been better. She gently touched his face, feeling the muscles become pliable under her touch. Some spots still felt cold, but it wasn't unnatural for that to happen. She was just thankful he was alive. "You can return to duty after I let you go from here. You have another three degrees to warm up before I can let you go out of here. I boosted your Ringer temp so that it would speed up...some. I'm not trying to cook you from the inside out, but I figured going a few degrees warmer wouldn't hurt." She smiled down at him, putting her hand on his. "Rest now." (Posted by Kari) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 10, Sickbay - CSEC Lt. Baylon Trinin - 2208) The CMO stepped beside Baylon's bed and picked up the Padd at the end of the biobed. She added a note then added some additional warming blankets and devices. Baylon sat silently watching the woman work. He knew that when she was ready she'd tell him how he was doing. "You scared me for a minute there. I haven't done a passive external rewarming in a while, but it worked. I have a sugar solution running into your veins right now to help support your muscles. Your fingers and toes fortunately had very little if any frost bite, except for the one." Baylon nodded. "Thank you Doctor. I'm sure it was necessary." he replied, "Besides, I've seen what severe untreated frost bite can do to a person. It's never nice and almost always fatal once the gangrene sets in." She gently touched his face and worked the muscles there with the tips of her fingers. ~Is this some sort of therapy?~ he asked himself. She withdrew her hands and said, "You can return to duty after I let you go from here. You have another three degrees to warm up before I can let you go out of here. I boosted your Ringer temp so that it would speed up...some. I'm not trying to cook you from the inside out, but I figured going a few degrees warmer wouldn't hurt." She smiled down at him, putting her hand on his. "Rest now." Baylon nodded, he was very fatigued and the warm of the blankets were very inviting. "Thanks again Angeni. I owe you a debt of gratitude." He leaned his head back against the pillow and closed his eyes and was fast asleep. Ammon Ranae - 2230) A list of casualties had finally come in. Both Baylon and the Captain were recuperating in Sickbay. Apparently the Captain was still critical and Baylon had been close to dying too, but was expected to make a full recovery soon. Unfortunately the Ambassador had been killed, making Ranae wonder what would become of their mission, would it be terminated? That seemed to be the most logical outcome, which was a shame as they'd come so close to being the first Federation starship to actually go to Romulus. The CTAC glanced over at the First Officer. She felt rather sorry for him, he'd done a stellar job of being in total control of the ship, but she didn't envy him the task of contacting the Romulans to inform them of the Ambassador's death; still from what she'd seen of how he was handling things, she was sure he would manage very well. Another glance at the chronometer on her console reminded her that it had been a very long time since lunch with Baylon. Lunch! A lot had happened since then and it felt like lunch had been a dream or a distant memory. She hoped she would share her next meal with the love of her life in the privacy of his or her quarters. There was nothing like almost losing him, to make her appreciate how much he meant to her. "Hello Lieutenant, how are you feeling?" She asked. "A little tired but otherwise fine, thanks. What time is it?" he asked her. "2300 Hours, the CMO said you could return to duty when you woke up…Or you can stay. Lieutenant Ammon inquired about you, but I think she's been too visit to visit yet." "That's alright," Baylon said as he sat up. He pulled the warming blankets off his body and set them at the end of the biobed. He stood, amazed at the lack of pain from his ribs. He had thought that he had broken a couple of ribs, but now he wasn't so sure. With Sickbay fully functional, they could have easily repaired him, and it seemed that they had done so. "I'm going to my quarters." Baylon told the nurse. "I'll report in, but I think I need some rest." She nodded. "If you have any severe discomfort, let us know right away." Baylon nodded and headed for his quarters. (posted by Daniel Greene) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 10, Sickbay - CSEC Lt. She was looking forward to spending some time with Baylon, they hadn't had any quality time together for several days. It was already past time for her shift to have ended, but she was still on duty and was wondering how much longer she would remain on duty when Baylon mindspoke to her. ::Well they finally released me from Sickbay:: Baylon sent to Ranae. ::The CMO says I'm fit for duty, but I'm beat so I decided to head for my quarters.
